Pennsylvania Artists Invited to Apply for 'Art of the State' 2010 Juried Exhibition

HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Artists throughout the state are encouraged to apply for an opportunity to showcase their work in Art of the State: Pennsylvania 2010, a juried art exhibition that is open to state residents and will run from June 27 to Sept. 12 at The State Museum in Harrisburg.

"The 43rd annual Art of the State exhibit will provide a showcase for artists across the state and allow visitors of The State Museum to view the work of many talented artists," said Barbara Franco, executive director of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. "This is a wonderful opportunity for the established or emerging artist to exhibit their work and receive statewide recognition."

Artists can compete in five categories: painting, works on paper, photography, sculpture and craft. For the first time, submissions will be done by digital images.

Applications are available at www.statemuseumpa.org and by calling the museum at (717) 783-9904 or the Greater Harrisburg Arts Council at (717) 238-5180.
The application deadline is February 28.

Among the awards are the $250 Rose Roy Memorial Award Honoring Volunteerism and the $250 William D. Davis Memorial Award for Drawing. The State Museum offers a $2,000 Purchase Prize.

Jurors, including the organization with which they are affiliated, include Paintings and Works on Paper, Leo Mazow, curator of American Art, The Palmer Museum of Art, The Pennsylvania State University, State College; Photography, Professor Joseph E. Elliott, photographer, chair, Art Department, Muhlenberg College, Allentown; and Three-Dimensional Craft and Sculpture, Janet McCall, executive director, Society for Contemporary Craft, Pittsburgh.

Awards will be presented at an opening reception on Saturday, June 26.

Art of the State: Pennsylvania 2010 is co-sponsored by The State Museum of Pennsylvania and the Greater Harrisburg Arts Council.
